Painting engine & gearbox mounts, differential ,suspension and steering

I managed to locate an original 3 speed manual gearbox, my 3 speed shifter bolted straight on, just need to locate a belhousing, flywheel and clutch.

Started  stripping and painting of the steering gear noting all the factory markings.

Same went for all the suspension components.

After all the metal componants were stripped of surface rust and paint the metal is treated so that there is no rust reisdue and the paint has a good base to adhere to.

This little rack system was so handy for hanging items while painting and drying.
Leaf springs were stripped down to individual leaves and treated and painted  with new teflon spacers inserted between the leaves.
All suspension repainted to original colour codes.

All factory markings were added back to componants

Steering rack and colomn repainted back to factory colours
Gearbox and engine mounts repainted

This took a while will need to finish off backing plates and all brakes before completeing the rear end.

All starting to look the part, can't wait till its time to put it all back together.

Floor pan repairs

I got a car rotisserie which will help with the work underneath the car, this I had to paint up and I did this at the same time as the motor.

Makes it real easy to remove all the front suspension when the car is on its side like this, really handy this rotisserie.

Really good steel under all this tar and old paint this body has been well preserved over the years.

With all the suspension removed and any brake and fuel lines its time to cut out the bits of rusty floor pan and replace with new steel.

Front floor rust not much for one of these cars seen alot worse.
Front floors and rear floors were only mildly rusted on opposite sides;  right hand front and left hand rear for some reason
Rusty rear scetion.
Doesn't look like much here but once you get into it you need to get back to the good metal but I still want to try and retain as much of the orginal steal as possible.

Cut section out, may ended up cutting more as it will be easier to weld in the bigger section and there was a few small holes that would have caused problems while welding.

Here is the new section ready to be welded in.

See view from underneath left rear floor new section to be welded in.

Right hand rear floor is great.

Drivers side floor as well.

Great underbody once the old paint is all removed it will clean up well, just a few floor repairs

Note date stamps on Original sills, these are good and solid and will not need replacing.

Rear floor section welded in now.

And front section as well. In the following weeks i'm going to start stripping cleaning up all the chassis components then paint and underseal. Depends on the weather as it gets really cold in the garage at night.
